A Complete Sig From Start To Finish

Now we are going to finish the Sig by adding a border

Go to 'Layer' - 'Flatten Image':

Make a new image the same size as your sig and fill in the background with a colour. I'm going to go for a darker blue '#01255A':

Now you need to drag your 'original image' into the 'new one'. I tend to make the background on the new one transparent by clicking on the eye next to it. This makes it easier to place the Sig in the right place:

Click on the background 'eye' so that it will be visible again but keep your sig (Layer 1) selected

Select the 'Rectangle Marquee' tool (M):

Now draw a Rectangle on your Sig about 1 pixel in from the edge:

Now for the slightly tricky part...

Press 'Ctrl + Shift + I' - this inverts the selection

Next press backspace - this deletes the 'marqueed area'

Next press 'Ctrl + D' - this removes the 'marquee'

The result should be a border around your sig!

Save your image as either a .jpg or .gif. I tend to use whichever produces the smallest file size as some Sig Of The Week Competitions have a file size limit.

I would also recommend that you do a 'step back' ('Edit' - 'Step Backward' or 'Alt' + 'Ctrl' + 'Z') on your original sig and save the .psd file so that you can go back and change anything at any time!
